I remember being a girl scout and we had one of those overnight chilli sleepovers but we had to make the fire in the woods we used a fire lighter but I remember the fire safety guy and the one thing he kept saying over and over was the importance and making sure the fire was out and there was no smoke. We had to take the burnt coal and leaves into a water box (literally a plastic box with water) and dump the debris in it. So even now as a 31 year old i always make sure to do that.

I used to be a Cub Scout den leader, so I remember them teaching that.

The only thing I remember about forest fire safety from when i was a Cub Scout (what feels like a hundred years ago) is surround your camp fire with a circle of rocks and make sure it is in as large a clearing as possible. When you put it out make sure there is no smoke at all. Where there’s smoke there’s potential for a forest fire.
